I’ve fished most of the popular lakes in Mexico, including El Salto, none even come close to the quality and fight of the fish in Bacarrac. Even a three day trip will give you the “opportunity” to catch a 10 lbs.+ bass. On my last trip I fished 5 days and caught 24 fish over 10 lbs! I had one day where 5 bass went 65 lbs (not incl. my big fish of the trip which was 17.25 lbs.), another where I had 62 lbs. and a third where I had 55 lbs.
To “catch” almost every big fish you hook fish light saltwater tackle like the Shimano Calcutta 400 with a 6.5-7 ft. med. stiff to stiff rod, 50-65lbs. braided line with a 25-30 lbs. fluorcarbon leader with BIG baits.
Keep the majority of your rod in the water and reel really slow when your bringing the fish in.
Good luck.

Big rains before Christmas. The lake level has risen two feet over the last two days as huge winter rains have hit the lake. We have had some fantastic action over the last four days – crank baits and spinner baits but I suspect with the near freezing temperatures and rain, the fishing will slow considerably. Tad Folsom reported three fish over 12 lbs. during the first day of heavy rain. We have not seen very big fish in the last couple of weeks so that is a pleasant surprise.
There are multiple seats open on various aircraft over the next 14 to 20 days departing out of Dallas, El Paso and Phoenix. You will need to call 806-679-4433 about the possible filling of these seats.

The fishing has gone from excellent to good to slow the last four days. Kelly Dunn, Stan Byquist, along with our favorite Japanese customers arrived the day the northern blew in. The first time in a long time that I can remember where we needed to use heaters in the rooms. Whereas the week before, we were catching 80 to 100 fish a day, we are struggling to catch 20 fish a day and most of those were less than five lbs. The big fish have obviously gone deep into the creek channels and we may not see them for a little while – it’s hard to say.
Something else, please make note that we have flights available out of Midland and El Paso and we currently have two seats out of El Paso on December 27th, along with two seats out of Phoenix on December 28th on a private plane. Our private jet out of Dallas has three seats available January 5th. We will not respond to email inquiries on these seats but you are welcome to call – 806-679-4433.

Remarkable few days with Gary McNiel’s group flying in in their private airplane, Ed Smith and his son fishing, along with Al Levonchuck – all of them were having just fantastic action which is not the norm at Baccarac, with plenty of six to eight lb. bass and several over nine caught. The main lake points are holding the majority of the fish and the weather is a little cool being that we are in Mexico. We do have a super special on some seats out of El Paso. Give us a call – 806-679-4433.

From Jeff Howell:
Magic In Mexico
We just got back from five amazing days of bass fishing on Lake Baccarac. Living up to their reputation of excellence the lodge accommodations were top notch. Great food & drink, a friendly attentive staff and the best bass fishing guides in Mexico make these trips ones to be treasured.
We were blessed with favorable weather conditions with plenty of warm sub-tropical sunshine. After catching the first few bass we were reminded of just how well-fed these fish are and when pinned to the end of your line they seemed supercharged. Virtually every bass we caught was fat & healthy and pulled like a fish twice their actual size.
Total numbers of bass caught each day were not kept, there were just too many.
Hoping for the “grande” bass Lake Baccarac is famous for, we decided instead to only track, weigh and photo the fish at and over 7 pounds.
As a group, our best 5 fish bag went 50 lbs 5 ounces ! That is by far my favorite stat of the trip. Between the three of us there were thirteen fish over 7 pounds.
