The famous Baccarac 10 lb’ers have not been showing up but we are getting a good number of 8 and 9s. The even better news is the number of small and medium sized fish we have been catching. The mid-December rains have really helped the level of the lake and we suspect that it will suppress the fishing action by a couple of more weeks but we should be in for a great season of spring fishing. The best baits right now are lizards, Senkos; you gotta come with your Scroungers and, of course, this is the time of year to use the Alabama rigs. See you on the lake!

Fish of all sizes right now – high number of one and two lbers, catching several four to six lbers at will and with nine lbers showing up daily. Very few over ten this time of year but it’s very encouraging with the numbers of small fish we are finding. The December rains have really pushed the lake up and setting it up for fantastic spring fishing. We have several fish pictures to post – just waiting for the customers to send them to us when they return home. Baccarac continues to the be the best big fish lake and we are very glad that we can operate our hotel there.
Several groups looking for a couple of people – January 13th has room for two people – call 806-679-4433. January 28th looking for two to four people.
Our dove hunting in Obregon is also going strong and offers some fantastic hunts. Most recently, six of us, in one morning of hunting, killed 4700 birds.
January 3rd, we have two seats open to go to Obregon for our dove hunts. January 12th, we have two to three seats and February 1st, we have two seats. Our operation at Obregon is a five star, gold standard operation. Looking forward to seeing you at one of our lodges!

This past week we have had very slow fishing….some topwater but the bite are very few and far >>>>>lots of fish jumping and chasing shad but not many biting lures

Consistently inconsistent. That’s the best way to describe the lake this year, or at least since the first of March. We’ve had some stretches of phenomenal catches, some very exciting crank bait action recently, but as soon as the action started, the fish stopped biting crank baits. In the last several days, they have gone back to plastics. I can certainly give you only the highlights and tell you about the 10 lbers recently being caught, which over the last fifteen days, there have been plenty, or I could tell you about the 7 to 9 lbers, but the truth is, the big bite maybe on one day, and for whatever reason, it’s not there the next. It could be the moon, the continued cold fronts or the water level, but for whatever reason, there’s not a consistent bite and it’s very hard to report what they’re biting on. It’s literally changing every day. We’ll have more reports over the next couple of days.

Bud Griffin and his boat caught 44 bass yesterday cranking big crankbaits with 7 fish over 9 pounds

Mitch Blackburn catches his personal best on his first castand breaks again 4 more times yesterday with a monster 13.14 trophy

Bill Benson and Jack Mocnik had a very successful week on the lake, catching the majority of their fish on trick worms, Senkos and Strike King deep-diving crank baits, with 10 to 12 lb. fish being landed every day on the water, the only exception being Friday, April 5th.
Fishing continues to improve with catches of 30 to 60 fish per boat per day.

Steve Anderson caught 50 fish today, with half of them in the 3 – 5 lb. range and the other half in the 6 – 13 lb. range. He used mainly deep-diving crank baits and some swim baits.

Just another shout out to all the great folks at Lake Baccarac Lodge for making our Mexico fishing trip a huge success. From Russ, to Tache Salazar, fishing guides Martine and Ramone, and the girls that cook and clean and cater to our every need. Special thanks to Terry Hollan and wife Cheryl. You guys are great! Here is another look at that 11.5 lb. that I caught with a white spinner bait slow rolled on the bottom in 30ft. of water!

We had good time and Dan & I caught some great fish ( 9-12, 10-3, 11-12 & 12-7). Dan caught the 11 & 12. We caught a good # of 7’s , 8’s & 9’s !!! You already have some pictures but I’ll send some too. Thinking about a June trip ???? Curt Green
