Well, we said the bite would flip and it has! We have had a full house this week and most boats are reporting upwards of 100 fish a day with the majority of those bass being in the 4-7lb range. We aren’t seeing very many small fish, lots in the mid range, a fair amount of 8 and 9lb fish and a handful of 10lb+ bass this past week.
The best bite has still been spinnerbaits in the trees and recently we have been loading the boat with suspended fish on all sizes of chrome rattle traps. Secondary bites with squarebills, xd8 cranks, and chatterbaits have been working as well.
We are just waiting on the big fish to start moving back to the main lake points, when that happens, expect to see big numbers of good fish during the last few weeks of the season.

Well, you can basically copy and paste the last few weeks reports here. The mornings have been pretty good, with boats averaging 30 or so fish, but the afternoons have been very slow.
Rattle traps, spinnerbaits, squarebills, texas rigged plastics, and some cranks have been the most effective.
The water has slowed its descent, but it still might take another week or two to get the bass fired up again.
We hope its soon.

Well, it looks like the dropping of the lake level has finally started to slow a bit. We really need the water to settle and start to clear and let the fish recuperate a bit and then May should be great! Right now, we are still sitting pretty much where we were two weeks ago with low numbers of fish, but still finding good ones here and there.
Best patterns have been casting through big wood uprights with spinnerbaits and squarebills, and then picking those areas apart with a texas rigged plastic. Clients have still been finding the odd deep crank spot that will produce, but not like the weeks past. The last few days have seen fish suspended in the channels and eating chrome rattle traps.
One thing is for sure, this lake never stays down for long, and even when its slow, it still fishes better than most people’s home waters.

April can really be described by one word… slow! We went from really hammering fish, to catching a handful each day. The saving grace, is at least those handful have been marked by some good fish. The rapidly falling water level really has the fish in a funk and we believe has affected the spawn as well. The water is super muddy and the visibility is close to none.
The best pattern we’ve been able to find has been fishing the ever emerging trees that have been popping up daily with the declining water level. Early and late has been best for action, with the middle part of the day finding the bigger bites. Thicker trees have held the best, banging big squarebills, 1oz spinners, and lizards. XD8 cranks has been a steady secondary bite, but lots of work for little payoff.
This last stretch has been highlighted by a few heavy 11lb slobs.
As soon as the water stops being drawn for irrigation, we expect the water to clear up and settle, and the fishing to get exponentially better. Stay tuned for a potentially epic May!

Well, welcome to the Lake Baccarac Lodge rollercoaster. The lake level is super low comparative to the last few years and still dropping fast. There seems to be no real pattern to latch onto and the hot baits seem to be very spot specific. The same boat that catches 100 bass today might catch 10 tomorrow fishing the same spots. The positive, is that the fish are fat and the swimbait bite is starting to turn on. We are hoping that the lake will stabilize soon and we can finish up the season strong. Big fish this week coming in at just shy of 12lbs.
