Continued hot weather with no end in sight, the bite at Lake Baccarac is still slow but we did get an encouraging report this morning from Big Al Levonchuck. “We’re kicking some bass a** with lots of eights and nines and a couple over ten.” Al went on to report that the morning bite is starting to offer up some topwater and overall from six a.m. to two p.m. is when the active bite occurs. Al also reports that there are fish on all of the open water humps and anchored down off the long points and when you do stumble on to one of those humps and when they start biting you need to stay there. Al and his group mainly using Carolina rigged watermelon lizards, swimming shad baits, slow rolling spinner baits on the bottom, along with Zara spooks early morning. Al is thinking that 25 to 30 fish a day should be a very easy mark to hit.

HOT WEATHER AT THE LAKE

Lizards, Swim=Shad, crankbaits
Hottest Colors:watermelon, silver shad ,
Time Of Day:all day
Very tough fishing and very tough fishing conditions over the last five days with extremely hot weather – high pressure system in the area. The water level is stable. The bass, although plentiful, chose not to be aggressive. With that being said, depending on guides, some boats still managed to catch 30 to 35 fish a day. We did have the Big Bass Shootout with Dave Luke’s group from OKC, along with our perennial all star, Gil Wright, participating as well. As always, the fan favorite, Gil Wright, was favored going into the Big Bass Shootout, but he was shot down by Dave Luke, as Dave finished first and Gil coming in a close second. Could it be that the king of big bass has been dethroned?!? Only time will tell. In a short interview after the contest, Dave’s only response was “I always thought it was all media bias in regards to Gil’s prowess.”
The most productive baits going forward will be Carolina rigged watermelon lizards, small spinner baits, swimming shad baits and crank baits and topwater is right around the corner with the first little drop in temperatures.
Call for the two seats available out of El Paso.
