FEBRUARY 21ST – Gil Wright gets another big one – 13.7 lbs. on a 1 oz. Black.blue jig Gil Wright says ” This might have been the BEST trip I have ever had to Lake Baccarac ” That is saying a lot Gil makes the trip about 4 times a year
Our guide Alfonzo, who we mentioned below on February 20, gets another three more over 10 lbs. with his guests. He has made his mark and now is without a dbout putting his clients on the best fishing sports.
FEBRUARY 20TH – The last three days – February 18 , 19 and 20 – on the lake have been fantastic. There have been 25 fish over 10 lbs. caught. The largest was brought in by Bob Gist of Oklahoma City – a 14.12. This fish beat his personal best by over three lbs.
Ten minutes later, his buddy Gil Wright, also of Oklahoma City, landed a 12.5 off the same submerged island.
Jimmy Manley of Marianna, Arkansas who had only been fishing a day and a half, has caught two over 12, two over 11 and four over 9. Where else but Lake Baccarac?
Denis Bootenhoff of Oklahoma City, had caught his personal best back at the first of January at Baccarac, now broke his personal best record again by catching a 12.12 this week.
Peter Riley, who was at Baccarac filiming Aaron’s Outdoors TV show, caught an 11.15 and his comment was simple: “Baccarac is to bass what Churchill Downs is to horses.” JUST THIS MORNING, Friday, Feb. 20: Peter Riley caught two 12 lbers!
Pete Hollar caught two over 12 and two over 11 and while the fishing was slowe for his trip this timer, said “Baccarac is unreal.”
Lodge guide Pauli, using a watermelon lizard with no weight, Texas Style, has racked up the numbers – numerous fish over 8 lbs and his boat has been catching over 100 a day.
Not to be outdone, lodge guide Alfonzo has caught more big fish than any other guide on the water in the last two weeks.
FEBRUARY 18 – Narlin reports from the lodge that the big fish are moving up and they are seeing more and more big bass.
FEBRUARY 14: Fishing is much improved with Troy Wells’ group catching several fish over 9 with one over 14. Terry Rader’s group also had excellent results with four over 11 and several over 9. Full report later!
Feb 8 – Tom Lane’s group of 16 caught 12 fish over 10 lbs. during their stay, with Ralph Reis lucky enough to catch an 11.2 on his first cast using a white spinnerbait and then three 1/2 days later catching a 12.0 on his last cast on a Zara Spook.
Numbers of fish caught range fro 15 a day to 60 a day per boat. Most big fish being caught shallow running the banksand obviously, many small fish arebeing caught on the banks. The majority of the big fish have yet to move shallow which is resulting in very sporadic big fish action. Rancho Padre and up the river are not producing fish like we saw last year, but the areas near Guasama and Papacha are producing the best action this year. With incredibly cool mornings over the last week, we have seen the water temperature drop two degrees. Russ and Narlin continue to be out on the lake every day looking for the hot spots.
…WE have 2 seats available on a couple of direct flights to Lake Baccarac.

FEBRUARY 6th UPDATE -RUSS JOHNSON AT THE LODGE
Fishing has improved steadily, with many more numbers. The lost 11 lbers showed up on the 4th and the 5th Big Lake “B” is shaking off the rust and the groups are starting to see several more trophies. The Harold Bade group landed two 11 LBERs and four 10.
Jim Day’s first cast of his trip produced a 11.14. Lots of small fish on the banks right now with several big fish starting to show up but I still think it will be a while before the bigger fish up in mass
Narlin Salazars report on Feb 6th It’s no problem finding 50 to 70 fish a day right now in the shallows the bite is slower than last year but improving and we starting to see more trophies added to the trophy board at the Lodge. Smaller senkos are working much better than the bigger stuff right now. the Zara Spook bite is starting to pick up. I think the bigger fish are making an attempt to move shallow and when they do…….Baccarac will be BACK
Jan 28th to Jan 3rd Lake Baccarac is known for its big fish and yes, we have caught some fish over 10 lbs. over the last several days. But fishing has slowed considerably from what it was earlier in the week, with the big fish suspending away from structure, you will only catch big fish if you are in the right place at the right time. It’s not a difficult task to catch from 50 – 70 fish a day, but only if you will target the shallow banks and be happy with catching the smaller male bass. You will find a big bass shallow from time to time, but they are few and far between. With both our lodges at Huites and Baccarac full, over the next several weeks, we will provide you with a wide array of fishing reports.

Time Of Day:Jan 11th to Jan 22nd
Jan 11th to Jan 19th at Lake Baccarac Lodge : Over the last week we have hit both ends of the fishing spectrum at Lake Baccarac. The fishing is great but the catching is very challenging. Myself, I had the best ½ day the water I had in a couple of years catching a 11, 10, 9 the first hour of fishing Tuesday the 13th of January that was only after catching 2 total fish the day before. Mike Price in two days on the water at Lake Baccarac his five biggest fish weighed over 55 pounds but others in his group struggled. Alberto Smith from Reading, PA came down to catch a trophy and went home with an 11.8 after fishing for 6 days. Downsizing and going small was the answer for me a 4 inch rootbeer colored senko worked for my big fish. Mike Price used a mostly 4 inch watermelon flukes. This pattern did not hold the next day and the big fish and actually all the fish became very hard to find. There are just tons of fish suspending in open water (100ft of open water) using electronics you can see the big bass suspending underneath the thick layer of shad. We have been able to find plenty of smaller fish on the banks and concentrated on the inlands in front of the lodge. Very few big fish are mixed with the smaller fish at this time in the shallow water.
The fishing has been very slow at times….
Report for JAn 20th: downsizing and fishing shallow did produce better numbers today boats catching 25 to 30 bass between 2 and 8 pounds with only 1 fish over 11 pounds Larry Person caught 11.8 on 1/2 oz white spinnerbait
Report from Russ Johnson at the Lodge on Jan 21st: Cool morning but warming very quickly. We have had some cloud cover lasting until midafternoon. Catching 30 bass a up to 9 pounds using mostly 5 inch watermelon senkos, they don’t like the 7 inch senko this year. White 1/2 oz spinnerbaits producing fish on the bank but these bank fish don’t have much size. The water level is starting to drop about 6 inchs a da. We are locating many bass suspending in 100ft of water not relating to any structure at al. Topwater is very spotty!!!l
Morning report From Jan 22nd most boats catching 15 fish this morning Dan Peirson caught 2 over 10 pounds fishing the long points. Russ reports a little better bite on the points this morning. THe afternoon of the 22nd
sticking with the morning pattern did find fish once again Long points are holding good numbers of fish. Our Guides Pedro and Sixto have been finding the bestbite. 4 inch Basstrix swimbaits are working very well along with Gary Yamamoto rootbeer senkos
THe JAn 23rd fishing report the mornings continue to be cool until lunch. The fishing/catching the past two mornings has been much better early morning with senkos, flukes, small swimbaits. A few topwater fish but not many early morning. The afternoon bite has been very slow and no patterns seem to work as the fish move out in deeper water. We are seeing many bass in the 30 ft suspended in with the shad.

Early in the week the fishing was good as we had lots of cloud cover. The high blue skies have really slowed down the fishing. MIke Drain and his group did pull 4 over 10 from the Lake this afternoon the 10th of January. It does seem that the shad in the lake are just much more attractive than the lures. More reports will be coming soon.
We are filming TV shows are both Huites and Baccarac with hook.TV .. this coming week
January 14 – FROM TERRY HOLLAN AT THE LODGE WHILE FILMING:
First day of filming, January 12, fishing was absolutely a bust. We were fishing with big lures in deep water, looking for the big fish and ended up the day with only four fish caught with four anglers fishing. great fish caught by Perla Azucena Salazar from El Fuerte
The fishing Jan. 13th – much improved as we downsized fishing with 4 inch rootbeer color senkos in shallow water, after realizing the bite is very subtle and almost nonexistent. I caught an 11, a 10 and a 9, which were all caught on camera and will be on the show HookTV, hosted by John Diestch. We had a phenomenal morning, 50 fish caught, many fish between 6 to 11 lbs.
The fish are the most finicky I have ever seen on Lake Baccarac. Although our boat had an incredible morning, we did have two boats that struggled with almost no fish. It is definitely a case of being in the right place at the right time when the fish decide to feed. If you need further reports, please call us and you can get ahold of me directly in Mexico.
