Topwater, swimbaits

Well a cold front has swept through and has the bite shut down a bit with 7 and 8lb fishing being common and 9’s or better being rare. The Tippetts group has had decent topwater in the mornings and some swimbait bites in the afternoons, but the cold front isn’t doing them any favors with slow numbers and size. As the weather starts to stabilize, look for some big bites to show up towards the end of the week.

What a week! The guys from Swimbait Universe were down this week and made the most of an unpredictable bite. They sure found the grandes as the group strung together many fish over 10lbs, two over 11lbs, and a giant 12-4 by Sean Caron fishing with Manuel! As is standard at Lake Baccarac Lodge, many personal bests were broken, and good times were had. Guide Jesus Chikinis was on fire fishing with Matt Klinker and Dusty Chaulk who put up 3 over 10lbs and a 50lb bag for the week. Tyson Wilson with Sixto and Dwight Hottle with Genaro both stuck fish over 11lbs and new personal bests! The hot baits were Burrito Bait co swimbaits, Working Class zero swimbaits, topwater, Seibert jigs with Yamamoto senko trailer, mag flukes, and rattle traps. Solid week for sure at The Best in Bass ???

We didn’t count all our fish or even weigh half of them. Nute and I fished what we could , learned a lot about the lake and a lot about how to work with our guide. Tio Pauly is what Nute and I started calling him after a day or two.
So the guide and the boat were very cool. The space there for sleeping and the dining hall and the outdoor area were great and made for some exciting after fishing reports and conversations about may things fishing and not.
As a whole the fishing was great, the food was excellent, the personnel on hand was exactly what we needed .
On my next trip ( in the plans already) I will be better prepared for my style of fishing and I now know how to work with what I have on hand . The whole Experience was well worth the time, money and effort all tha way around.
I am truly thankful for what I have here at home and for what I found in a home away from home in Mexico.
We had men from all over the US converge on one location, at the same time , we took over the lodge and made a place of our own for our time.
I am truly Blessed to have the friends I have and to have gained all the new friends . From Canada to Cali , from Boston to South Carolina to Texas. We are all fishermen and I know I’ve made some life long friends that I look forward to seeing again next Oct.
Once again I Thank everyone at the lake and everyone that made our trip possible and one of the best experiences of my life .

Lake Baccarac Lodge was AMAZING. Thanks Mike Bucca for the invite! Went with a great group of guys and look forward to returning again some day!
If this was slow, I can’t imagine it being better. We didn’t even weigh 95% of our 4-6 pound fish;didn’t even count them (we should have) caught 22 fish over 7 lbs—- lost too many BIG ones to count as well. My brother had 7 fish over 8lbs- his biggest of the week being 8lbs 12 oz. I had 4 fish over 8 lbs. one being a 9lb-2oz and a 10 lb fish!

Jigs, hard swimbaits, topwater

Well we said business was about to pickup and boy has it. We have a full house right now with the Bucca/Hamilton group of Bullshad Baits fame, and they are running and gunning for those big bites! 

So far 10 anglers have new personal best largemouth anchored by Steven Sapir’s 11.80 grande on the jig! Boats are seeing anywhere from 30-80 fish a day with plenty of 7, 8, and 9lb fish and these trophy hunters are only half done.  Hot baits have been dark colored jig/senko combo along with hot blitzes of topwater in the morning. For the first time that we can recall, big hardbodied swimbaits have emerged as a contender like never before. The proof is in the pics!
