Bill Q grp of 26 ( newenglandfishing grp) short report from the grp reports lots of bigger fish and many fish over 8 pounds and several fish over 10 for the group. topwater and swimbait action was the best in the ranch area. Guide Juan was noted as an excellent big fish finder……waiting on more details and pictures
The Lodge Report on the 12th first day of good action on lizzards reported today. The bigger fish coming on topwater with Russ and Rene both reporting several fish over 9 pounds and up to 12 pounds using super spooks ( wounded shad color )

Gil Wright grp of 9: In Short ” Incredible ” 9 fishermen and 9 fish over 10 pounds with 7, 8 and 9 pounders very common. Fishing from the new 22ft Skeeter ” really enchances the Baccarac the trip ” THe afternoon of the 3rd TOPWATER was excellent
Mike Young Grp We fished mainly deep water looking for the big ones..and we found them total of 42 fish over 8 pounds with 6 fish over 10 pounds and 2 fish over 12 pounds. One in a lifetime trip that I will now be making 3 more times this season note: listen to your guide, they know the lake
Chris Heppel grp of 6 our group of six fished last Wed.-Sat. (10/31-11/3). Four of us caught our lifetime biggest largemouth–more than once! (My 8-4, 9-4 and 10-3 were all personal bests.)
We landed four fish over 10 pounds, including a 13-2, a 10-3, and two 10-0’s. We also caught four nine’s, about the same number of eight’s, and many seven pounders. We probably averaged around fifty bass per boat per day. (We had 100% sunshine the entire time we were there and would really liked to have seen how a little cloud cover might have affected the fishing.)
Our most effective baits were topwaters (poppers), and although the topwater fishing was best early and late, we were able to catch fish on the surface throughout the day. Big fish (9+) were also caught on fat free shad crankbaits (including the 13-2), 1 oz. spinnerbaits, and large (6″) swim baits. The 10-3 was caught on a Devil’s Horse (on Halloween!). Buzzbaits also produced, particularly late in the day.
Although we fished some plastics, including senkos and lizards, these baits did not seem to be as effective, particularly on larger fish.
If I were going back tomorrow, I would try to be on the water in a prime topwater spot at first light with a large popper ready to go. Same exact tactic for the last 30 minutes of light before dinner.
By the way, we had opportunities to fish with Rene’, Sixto, Manuel, and Pedro, and all were excellent.

After fishing 20 years in Mexico I finally broke the 10 pound mark. This trip I caught 3 over 10 pounds and lost one that was a real gaint. ( at least 13 plus ). While some other boats had a little topwater action we did not. Caught our fish mostly on spinnerbaits 1 oz white made by Dick Pro Style Lures. 2 out of the 3 days our boat caught 150 bass per day and on the third day we only caught 45 bass for the day. This was the best trip ever with tons of heavy fish
Report from BILL DOLL grp of 6
Another great trip to Baccarac!! I have fished this lake for a number of years with this trip producing the least quantity, but largest fish. Our group of six being conservative caught (50) 5 to 6#, (15) 7+#, (25) 8+, (10) 9+, (4) 10+, (2) 11+, a 12# & 12.2# with several anglers in our group new to this. The fish were mostly in a neutral or negative feeding mood, which required a ” SLOW DOWN” presentation. Swimbaits and spinnerbaits were crawled along the bottom. The best spinnerbaits were 3/4oz. with a large single blade, gold or nickel in willow leaf or indiana profile which banged against the wire frame. If the topwater bite was slow, the wacky worm picked up the difference producing several grande. For some reason my ‘go to’ bait the lizard, did not produce very well, but that could change. The water temperature ranged from 78° in the morning to high of 82° and is slowly falling. I think as the water cools the topwater bite will explode because the bait fish do not yet need to warm up in the coves or shallow shorelines. Fishing Mexican lakes is a bit different than the U.S If you are going for the first time and want to catch a ‘Grande’, my suggestion is to listen to your guide’s advice. They are very good at what they do. This is where I will continue chasing my ‘Super Grande’. The food and accommodations as usual is very good. Have a great trip.
BEST TRIP EVER!

Food, service, guides and accommodations excellent as always. Our group of 5 caught on average 25 to 50 fish per day with the majority in the 4 to 5 pound range. Chapo Ulm caught the majority of the large fish with 4 over 10 pounds and several in the 6 to 8 pound range predominantly on topwater and 6” pearl swimbaits. Mike Powers nailed a fat 10.9 with a pearl fluke. Matt Brewer’s large was an 8 with several in the 5 to 6 pound range. Joe Copeland worked on landing the grande but had to settle on a 7.1. Derek Krider had several in the 5 to 6 pound range and one 7.2. Each of us lost at least one large fish well into the double digit range. After polling several groups of anglers at the lodge, most large fish are being caught on 6” pearl swimbaits, 1 oz. rattle traps, topwater baits, 1 oz. spinner baits and large crankbaits. The lake dropped about 4 feet in the 3 days we fished. We are looking forward to returning in March. Topwater fishing was the most spectacular I have ever seen and it is only starting to heat up. Make sure to change out any small treble hooks with larger ones on your topwater baits as the grandes will pull free; I missed three lunkers on topwater before swapping out with crankbait hooks.
