Hottest Colors:Green
Time Of Day:weekend of the 18th of Oct.
I Would like to make a correction on the previous post. It was Greg Verlander that caught a 10 lb, 8 oz. on a Pop’R. I Had a blast and am spoiled on Big and Lots of Bass. When Asked how long I had been Fishing Bass, I responded by saying 2 times in my life. I was then informed that most Bass fishermen have never caught the size of fish I was lucky to retrieve. Met some great folks from El Paso and Dave and Lee from Atlanta. If you have second thoughts about coming here, don’t! Great folks, great guides and great Accommodations and the worlds best Bass fishing.

As the weather is cooling, the topwater bite is getting hotter. Harris Hatfield and his group of 11 from El Paso reported to Russ Johnson at the lodge that it was the best fishing trip they have ever had in 30 years of fishing Mexico. The topwater bite was incredible, with Dave Lemaster catching a 12.13 while fishing with Baccarac Lodge guide Sixto Figeroa. Also Harris Hatfield and Weelo Blackwell fished with Lake Baccarac Lodge new guide Theodore and had great luck on topwater and at one point caught 35 fish in a row on Zara Spooks. Mike Verlander caught a 10.5 on a Pop’R and Gene Root of El Paso caught a 10.3 on a topwater Pop’R.

What a year, our second trip to Baccarac in 2005. After going down in May and catching low numbers but huge size, we experienced the opposite. We took down a group of 6 on the charter fight again, definitely the way to go. Of our six fishing there were 3 over 12 pounds and another 3 to 4 over 10 pounds. The difference in this trip were the numbers. For the three days fished my brother and I each had in excess of 200 fish each. These were tallied numbers and not estimates and the numbers could have been much higher but we were concentrating on looking for the larger fish. Top water was great late and early and lizards rattletraps and spinners were hot during the day. Once again the staff, guides and Rene were great. Having fished 4 lakes in Mexico over the years, I can say without a doubt there is no better lake or lodge than what you get at Baccarac. Good luck to all getting ready to go. We are already looking forward to hopefully returning in May.

Rico Popr’s, Rebel Popr’s, buzzbaits, Zara Spooks – just about anything for the early morning topwater bite. Jason Courtney and Burk Watts were reported to have caught an 11 and 12 lber on topwater. Baccarac Lodge guide Enrique reports that as soon as the topwater bite slows down, move to just slightly deeper water and use Texas rigged 8 inch watermelon lizards. Sixto Figeroa, guide at Lake Baccarac Lodge, is producing deeper water fish also with watermelon lizards and deep diving crankbaits.

My father and I arived late monday night, and they had one of many awsome meals waiting for us.The next morning we got up and met our guide, who immeditally took us to a spot on the lake that was covered with baitfish. My first fish was 6.5 lbs, and it hit a white buzzbait right at the boat, and almost took my rod over. After that it was on! In a three day period, my father and I cought over 300 fish, and 10+ between 5 and 8 lbs. The main lures to have is 3/4 oz white spinnerbait, LARGE soft jerk baits(albino or white)vertical jigging in large cover, !!!popr’s and super spooks!!!, watermelonseed lizards(8″), and most of all– chartruse die (die everything).Every bait has to be very large. One other MUST is Powerpro 65 lb test (Braided Line). At the end of our trip, my father and I both had a large number of bruses on our ribs from setting the hook, and our sholders hurt so much we could barely carry our baggage. I cant wait to get back, and neither will you.
