Since Christmas, we have not seen as many big fish as before the holidays, but this week, Kyle Pipkin of Amarillo, Texas, did catch his largest bass ever – a 10 lb. 14 oz. while fishing with Sixto Figeroa and consistently caught over 100 bass a day and rated this as his best fishing trip ever in Mexico. Joy Dennis of New Jersey caught a 10.4 on a 1 oz. spinnerbait with willow leaf blades. Don Vise of Phoenix, Arizona, in 16 feet of water, using a 10 inch electric blue Berkley Powerbait worm, caught a 10 lb. 2 oz. bass and rated the fishing as outstanding. Dan Jellum of Phoenix, AZ says, “Baccarac is the best lake in Mexico for numbers and size of bass.” Topwater remains good for a short period of time in the morning and a short period of time in the evening, with most fish coming on the points, spinnerbaits and worms. Jim Weathers of Wichita Falls, Texas, his first time to Mexico, consistently caught over 100 bass a day and fishing mostly plastics and reported that colors did not matter. Greg Riggle, also of Phoenix, caught a fish over 10 lbs. and is booking a trip to come right back. The list goes on. We experienced great fishing this last week. The lake was affected today by a major cold front and wind storm and most fishermen stayed off of the lake. We will report in a couple of days to see how the cold front has affected the fishing.

The main concentration of bigger fish seems to be suspended in 30 feet of water on the long points and the submerged islands of Lake Baccarac. Jason Karseboom today caught a 12 lb. 14 oz. using a swimbait at the suspended depth. Good numbers of fish can be caught all morning long on topwater with fish up to 7 1/2 lbs. using Pop’Rs and 4 inch Riproller from High Roller Lures. Texas red watermelon lizards are the go-to bait between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
