Wow, if the last week of December 2016 is any indication of is on what to come in 2017, then January is going blow in strong! The group of Japanese clients at the Lodge between Christmas and New Year had excellent results with the guys managing to catch at least one 10 pounder per fishing session. That’s right, 8 fish over 10 pounds per angler in 4 days of fishing, 6 and 7 pound bass plentiful, and the little 1 pound bass starting to get mixed in with the big ones as we enter pre spawn.

Remember, the Lake has been low for 8 years and with the level reaching 99% in October the lake got a new life. Baccarac is great again! Don’t miss it!

Greg Riggle’s group of 8 from Arizona is arriving private air today. That’s right, we have private air available from Arizona.

Charlie Moore from Oklahoma 6 arriving today with a group of six anglers via commercial air, which has better connections now into Los Mochis.

Word of advice from Narlin and Manuel: the better the equipment you have the better results! Got to be able to make long casts and work lots of territory on the retrieve.

What can I say about this year? This was an excellent fall with a huge number of heavy, heavy bass. The lake peaked at 99% full, and is now 92% full on the last week of the year. Great way to start 2017.

I have never been confident about predicting fishing on any lake. However, I predict that we are about to see an incredible January thru June. I love the way January is shaping up. Groups currently at lodge are racking up trophies fishing structure in 22 ft of water. Small bass are running on the banks.

We have available space the second half of January and various small openings in February.

The guides have all been on the water to practice their guides skills, and we have been making some improvements to the lodge. The best thing is we once again have expanded our available fleet of private aircraft operating Phoenix, Dallas, and El Paso. We are committed to making 2017 the best year ever.

Recently, the Tad Tolson group of four flew into the private airport just 10 minutes from the Lodge, and from the time they landed until 3 hours later all four group members had caught at least 1 bass over 10 pounds. Lake Baccarac is magical.

However, on average the bite has slowed from earlier in the fall as the colder weather is changing the patterns.

The lake is still at 93% full, the highest level in 12 years. We have been begging you trophy hunters to come check it out. I don’t think anyone that came was disappointed!

We are expecting a cold snap next week – let’s see how the fish like it.

This is the first time the lake has been full in 11 years, and those who remember or were lucky enough to fish the lake 8 to 11 years ago understand what is happening. The monster bass in the deep water have moved up to more catchable levels, and this is just an excellent time for those structure fishermen.

It is certainly the tale of two lakes with certain places on the lake producing high numbers of bass in the 2 to 3 pound range, and then the trophy places producing plenty of 8 to 13 pound fish. Sam Holley brought in 11 bass between 9 and 11 pounds. Ronnie Hamilton reports 59 over 8 pounds. Be prepared to fish in 14 to 20 ft of water if you are looking for the trophies.

My prediction is that December will continue at this pace until we get a cold snap.

Go up the river for the numbers, and to North Canyon and Papachaw for the trophies. Rex Small’s group of four caught sixteen bass over 10 pounds and seven bass over 9 pounds within the last three days.. The weather is starting to cool off, and the fishing are moving up very slowly.

Between now and December 20th, expect consistency and monster-sized bass.
