Fished 4 days and had a fantastic trip. The staff at the lodge took great care of us. The food was as good as it gets. As for the fishing, we were told it had been slow but if it was, it was still the best we've ever had. Day 1: hit schooling bass and caught 60-70 from 3 to 6lbs. Day 2: started slow but in the afternoon turned on and finished the day with well over 100 fish with an 11.8 and a 10lb. Day 3: our slowest day started off with an 8 and a 10 and finished with about 40 total. Day 4: great day for me, couldn't tell you how many total fish but I personally had 20 over 6lb, 8 over 7lb, and 3 over 8lb. 90% of our fish came on deep crankbaits. Tried plastic but Rene said throw crankbaits and he guaranteed we would catch big fish and he was right. The quality of the fish was amazing; I don't think we caught more than 20 fish under 3lb. I couldn't believe it. By Day 4 we were calling 4lb'ers dinks. This was my first trip there but I will be back as soon as I can save enough pennies.

Mike Carne of Seattle, WA, had a great morning - five fish over 10 lbs. with the biggest one being over 13 lbs. That's right! An incredible morning of fishing. We do not feel like this is a one-day wonder. Rene and his guides have noticed the bigger fish becoming more shallow as the lake continues to rise from the rains in the mountains. The Rancho Padre area is procuding numbers of bass, while targeting submerged islands and the long points with carolina-rigged black lizards and pearl swimbaits has produced the big fish. We are starting to see topwater using Zara Spooks, quietly working them on the shaded banks near Sonny's cove.

Although the first couple of days of the season were rather slow, we finally found a very consistent bite in the Rancho Padre area, fish being in 14 to 18 ft. of water using big Bill DAnce Fat Free Shad. Today's clients caught an 11.8, an 11.0, a 10.2, and reported 50 fish between 4 and 7 lbs. With bass busting shad all over the lake, topwater is good but not great. Swimbaits had very little effect but the big crankbaits were the lure of the day. The lake is currently 76% full.
