Lake Baccarac has received 12 feet of new water since Oct. 25th. Fishing has remained very strong. Bill Hicks and crew from New Mexico described it as "incredible topwater action." His group of six caught multiple double-digit fish. Buddy Carlton of Florida caught a 12.3 bass. Gil Wright of Oklahoma City says, "fantastic topwater!" Mike Barton and Scotty Anderson of Phoenix caught 40 topwater fish the last evening they fished. Teddy Hart of Houston, Texas caught a 14.0 the first two hours he was on the lake. The lake is now 85% full and topwater action should be with us until we see a cold front this winter.

Wonderful trip as usual!!!!

Wonderful trip as usual!!!! First day little slow. Caught total of 59 bass with 1 8lb and 1 8 1/2lb. Second morning caught 11 on top.One 11lb., one 9 1/4 , 3-8's, 6 sixs. I could not believe the size that we caught on top!!!! The entire day we caught 89. I have a counter that I wear around my neck. The third and last day we caught 49 on top in the morning. They ran very large again with the largest being 9 1/2. There were many 8's, 7's, 6's and 5's. We caught almost all of our very biggest fish on top. I found that unusual after 55 years of bass fishing. The total for the third day was 107 bass. This is without a doubt the best big bass lake in the world at this time. Terry all your guys and gals came through with the same wonderful service that they always do. This was my sixth trip to this lodge. Gary

Rene called in a fishing report last night. He says topwater action is getting better every day. Also there are plenty of big fish - 10+ lbers. - being caught off Russo's Isla. Mike Wilson of Tulsa, OK, landed an 11 lber., along with a 10.8 from his boat, and reported the average size fish is the best he has ever seen in his years of coming to Lake Baccarac. Mike fished topwater in the morning and fan casts, swimbaits across points and islands in the afternoon. Steve Groom of Amarillo, TX, had an unbelievable trip! First three fish after lunch his second day of fishing - 8.2, 9.9 and 8.6. Steve said, "We caught so many big fish that we were calling 3 and 4 lbers. small." Floyd Brown of Odessa, TX, landed an 11.0 within the first five minutes of the day. David Humphrey of Phoenix, AZ, yesterday caught three or four over 10 lbs. In his words, "Incredible." As you can see, topwater action is getting better every day. If it mirrors last year, we will have a strong topwater bite until Christmas. Hurricane Paul is due to hit the West Coast today and should make a direct hit towards Lake Baccarac and Lake Huites. We'll keep you updated on conditions and fishing reports.

Well...the topwater action finally exploded yesterday. Along with the standard crankbait/swimbait bite, poppers and buzzbaits absolutely whacked 'em yesterday. Most boats reported 120 to 140 fish with 80% weighing 5lbs or over. There were not a lot of fish over 8lbs yesterday, but thats probably cuz they can't beat the other fish to the bait! There was a 9.3 caught on a popper, and 6 or so over 8, but most everything else was 5-7lbs. When the wind picked up, there were two choices, throw the Storm 4" pearl swimbait, with a reel and stop cadence, or throw topwater in the calmer coves. Action was non stop for most boats and everyone here at the lodge is ecstatic. We are heading out again today to specifically target some bigger fish, with different/larger baits.

Excellent Trip!

We just got back from another excellent trip to Baccarac. Our group of 4 experienced great action on almost every morning and afternoon session. Our big fish went 12.1 and we had four others between 9.12 and 11.9 lbs. Most others averaged 4-7 lbs. and came on Norman DD-22's and larger Bill Dance Fat Free Shad cranks and Storm 5" swimbaits. The topwater bite seemed to improve each day...poppers, buzzbaits. We lost 2 giants on buzzbaits and a third on the swimbait....use a trailer hook! The fish were moving with the gizzard shad and after a feeding frenzy would shut off. The key was running and gunning with the cranks while targeting points, humps, and dropoffs in 20 feet or less. If they aren't there..MOVE! You will find them. When you find them, you will whack them. Numbers averaged 60-90 per day. We are heading back next month and expecting the topwater to be crazy, as it was last November.
