Wow!!!! Our group of 10 fishermen out of Alabama experienced a trip of a lifetime at Lake Baccarac Lodge. Thanks to Rene and all the staff and guides at the lodge. The food, service and accommodations were second to none. Our group took the charter flights out of Texas and it is highly recommended. Thanks to Ricky and Mike the pilots you were both great. After landing we were only 15 minutes from the lodge. This is my seventh year to fish Mexico ( Guerrero, Huites, El Salto ) and some in the group have fished Mexico for over 10 years. No other trip compared to this one for anyone in the group. Of our 10 fishing, 8 set personal records and one tied his best catch ever. Here is a very accurate breakdown of the three days for all our group. 25 @ #5+, 31 @ #6+, 15 @ #7+, 9 @ #8+, 10 @ #9+, 7 @ #10+, 4 @ #12+ 1 @ 13.4 lbs. Never have any of us seen such numbers of quality fish. Rarely did you catch a fish under 3 pounds. It got to the point where catching a 6 to 8 pound fish was just another catch. And the 4 and 5 pound fish will absolutely wear you out. I personally caught a total of 37 fish for the 3 days, 12 Wed, 8 Thur 17 Fri, of these 37 16 were over 5 and up to 12.75 pounds. I was fortunate to catch 2 over 12 during the three days. On Friday my top 5 fish weighed a total of 44.8 pounds. If you want lots of numbers go elsewhere, but for a chance to catch a Grande, Baccarac is the place! I have been to lakes and caught close to 100 a day and I will take the size over the numbers any trip. All I can say is you had better hang on tight, you are only a cast away at any time to hooking a Grande!!! This lake is something special, I hope it can hold up for years to come. We will be back to try and tame the waters again, the good Lord willing but I can assure you not soon enough. Everyone is already looking forward to another chance. Take plenty of Storm swim baits, 5" and 6" Pearl is hot now. Also take chartreuse dip. I fished this bait almost exclusively for the three days. Thanks again to all at Lake Baccarac Lodge for a trip we shall never forget. Jeff Darden

Hottest Baits:
5 inch swimbaits, rattletraps
Hottest Colors:
pearl and chartreuse, silver and chartreuse

Time of Day:
Sunday, May 14th

Details:

Jason Loris and his dad Stan Loris today caught one fish that weighed 15.2 and one fish that weighed 14.0 and a third fish that was 13.0. The 15.2 was caught running a 5 inch swimbait across the top of the water, while the other two big fish were caught in 25 feet of water using a jigging technique on rattletraps. We would throw the rattletraps out on top of humps, let them sink to the bottom and agressively bounce off of the bottom and when the baits would fall, we would get a bite. We are catching 50 fish a day using this tecnique alone. The size is the best I've ever seen. We have some topwater action very, very early but because of the very warm days, topwater action does not last long. Also, Carolina-rigged lizards worked very well if after casting, use a dead stick. We will be open through June and hope to see you at the lodge!

A report from Norman Klayman, currently fishing at Lake Baccarac Lodge: Norman states, "This is the best day on the water I have ever had fishing for big bass. While fishing with head guide Sixto Figeroa, this morning, I caught five bass over 10 lbs., with the biggest bass being a 14 even. All bass are coming on heavy structure, in 18 to 24 ft. of water, while fishing swimbaits and big crank baits." Also at the lodge, Bo Jordan and his group have caught 12 lb. fish in their morning and afternoon sessions. You can't believe the numbers of big bass being caught right now. This is a big turn-around from last weekend, when the fish had lockjaw and refused to bite. It seems like the best bite comes when there is a small ripple on the top of the water. Rene Salazar, manager and head guide, highly recommends coming as soon as possible as the fishing at Baccarac today was excellent.

Good Day

On April 30th, fishing was very good, with Dee Tyler, Saturday morning catching 20 fish before lunch, four of those fish weighing 10 lbs. using green shad, Bill Dance Fat Free Shad, along with white and chartreuse swimbaits, fishing over structure in 20 to 22 feet of water. The big fish were concentrated on any significant underwater structure. On May 2nd, while I was fishing with Jason Loris and his father, we caught 10 fish that were 8 lbs., 7 fish that were 9 lbs., 2 fish at 10 lbs. and one fish that was 13.8 lbs. The 13.8 was caught on a white spinnerbait on the bottom, 16 feet of water on a hump. The 10 lb.'ers were caught on swimbaits.
